Note | Helias or Eligeus lord of Workedeligh co Lancaster Called Helias Gigas said to have held the manor shortly after the Norman conquest He went with Robert Duke of Normandy to the First crusade ad 1106 and distinguished himself in the Holy land where according to an old chronicle he was of such strength and valour that he was reputed a giant and in old scripts is often called Elias Gigas he fought many duels and combats For the love of our Lord and Saviuor Jesus Christ And obtained many victories. He is said to have died on his way from the crusade and to have been buried at Rhodes |
