Note | The trouble with girls is that after a certain age they leave home. This makes them difficult to trace in the census. For example, what is their new married name? I was lucky to find Sarah married to Charles Layman - a name that came from the blue, because he is shown in the 1901 census - and a certain Mary Worsley who was born in Dover Kent, mother in law, is living with him - as are his wife Sarah and two children. The 1891 census is harder. She is no longer living at home now, and not yet married. The only Sarah I was able to find is one who lives in Toxteth but in the posh end, and is listed as a servant. It is all so probable that this is our Sarah, except that her second name is listed in the census by her employer as "E" which is not right for Jane. So, I may have got it wrong. |
